In spite of the government regulating the water utility companies for contaminants in the water, the “acceptable” levels of contaminates that the government allows in our water, tap water may surprise you.    Our tap water is often contaminated with metals, bacteria, minute amounts of feces, antibiotics, and even prescription drugs like Prozac.  You can request a copy of elements that are in your drinking water by asking your water utility company for a water quality report.  They are now required by law to inform you and to give you this information.    These reports tell you what contaminates are being tested, the “acceptable” level for these contaminates, and the actual level present.  Even though minimum acceptable levels have been set, the utility and water companies do not always comply or give an honest report according to MSNBC.  Check out this article:  http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6180520/   I now have a question for you.  What contamination level do you find acceptable?

Chlorine is used to kill harmful organisms, but it is also unhealthy.  In one shower your skin absorbs the equivalent of 8 glassed of chlorinated water.  Do you really want that much chlorine in your body?
